Australia and Indonesia are strengthening cooperation on justice sector reform through digital innovation and technology-focused capacity building.

In May 2026, the Australian Government through AIPJ3, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and the Australia Awards Indonesia (AAI), launched a short course titled Leveraging Technology and Data for the Justice and Security Sector.

From 25 May to 5 June 2026, 25 participants from Indonesia’s public and private sectors will take part in the program, designed to strengthen skills in navigating an increasingly digitised justice and security landscape. The course focuses on technological innovation, including artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, and data-driven policymaking in the justice sector.

The program includes workshops in Indonesia and a two-week intensive course in Australia, followed by post-course activities where participants present projects aimed at applying their learning in practice. The participants agreed the short course is highly relevant to current developments in Indonesia (and globally), particularly in the areas of data interoperability and AI governance, as both issues are important for the development of this sector.

AIPJ3 will also facilitate a seminar in October 2026 to showcase participants’ projects and explore opportunities for integration into future AIPJ3 program activities.
